Temperatures Washing Machine Water for Better Performance

Clothes not coming out clean? The water might be too cold. Make sure your cold washing machine water is at least 65-degrees for best detergent action.

Water coming from the cold water tap can be pretty chilly during the winter (or year-round if you have a well). According to washing machine manufacturers, if the water is colder than 65 degrees F, the additives in laundry detergent won't work as well—and powder detergents won't fully dissolve. Cold water for washing should be in the 65- to 85-degree range or clothes won't get completely clean.

To find out if your clothes are getting a good wash, check the water temperature with a cooking thermometer (one that registers low temperatures) when you do a cold, a warm and a hot wash. If the water temperature is below 65 degrees for cold water washes, boost it by selecting warm water for part of the initial fill cycle. If the warm water wash is below 85 degrees (a common problem during winter or when the washing machine is at the opposite end of the house from the water heater), try the hot water setting instead for all or part of the wash cycle. Or run the hot water tap into the laundry tub until it gets hot, then turn on the washer.

Always leave rinse settings on cold, no matter what washing temperature you choose. Cold water rinses are just as effective as warm water rinses, and you'll save a lot of energy.

How to Adjust Temperatures on Oven Range Stove

If your oven  times are off, recalibrate your oven temperature to match an accurate oven thermometer. The procedure is in your oven’s instruction manual.

If the temperature in your oven doesn’t match your temperature setting, or if your new oven just doesn’t cook like your old one, you can recalibrate the temperature setting. The instructions for adjusting the temperature are in your instruction manual. If you don’t have a manual, ask the manufacturer to send you one or go online and search for a downloadable version. Enter your oven’s model number along with the words “instruction manual” in the search box and you’re sure to find what you need.

You’ll need a good-quality oven thermometer to see if your oven is heating accurately. Check local retailers (kitchen and department stores tend to carry good ones) or buy one online. Place the thermometer on the center shelf and wait for the oven to maintain a constant temperature. Then use the procedure outlined in your manual to match the temperature setting to the thermometer reading.

Repair my GE General Electric microwave Stove

How to Buy a GE Microwave

Purchasing a new or used GE microwave on eBay is easy process, as you simply conduct a search by typing the model name of the microwave into the search field located on every page of the site. To refine your search results by geographical area, or by closest match, simply click the drop-down menu at the top of the listing results page and customize the results according to your personal preference. Becoming familiar with the types of problems that a GE microwave and with solutions to those problems can save you money and can help you get your microwave back to working as it should.

General Electric (GE) microwaves are consistently dependable appliances. Highly rated by consumers and professional reviewers alike, these microwaves are an essential component in any hardworking kitchen. Most models offer speed cooking, rewarming, and food temperature-sensing features, making the GE microwave a favorite cooking tool of many. Each GE microwave model operates in different ways and may eventually malfunction, but most problems with GE microwaves are easy to diagnose and correct. GE microwaves are widely available from local big box retail outlets, and eBay is also a good place to search for a new or used GE microwave.

How to Reset a GE Microwave?

If a GE microwave seems like may not be working properly, users should begin their repair attempts by resetting the machine. A soft reset simply backs users out of the programming that is active on the display screen of the microwave. To perform one, users should press the "Off/Clear" button on the microwave's keypad for 3 to 5 seconds. A hard reset, on the other hand, should likely fix any temporary problems with the microwave's memory. Users can perform a hard reset by unplugging the machine from the outlet, waiting a minimum of 60 seconds, and then plugging the machine back into the power source and resetting the time clock.

How to Replace a Fuse on a GE Microwave?

Replacing the fuse on a GE microwave may be necessary if too much electrical current passes through the thin metal wire inside the appliance's fuse. It is important to remember that the internal parts of a microwave can produce electrical current even if the microwave is unplugged from the wall outlet.  After unplugging a GE microwave, owners can remove the screws on the front of the grill, which may be on the top or on the back of the machine. Owners should make sure to label the wires connected to the fuse before disconnecting them. After doing so, they can unclip the wires and pull the fuse straight out of the case. A blown fuse should show burn marks on the inside of the glass fuse case, and if the fuse is in fact blown, owners can replace it with a new one by pushing the new fuse into place. Then, they should reattach the wires and replace the cover. Finally, owners can plug the machine back in to reset the time clock.

Troubleshooting a Broken GE Microwave

If a GE microwave malfunctions and a user performs a soft reset followed by a hard reset, and if the machine's fuse is intact yet the problem persists, it may be necessary to troubleshoot in order to find the source of the malfunction. Owners can consult the following chart, which describes a number of potential problems and solutions. The cost of GE microwave parts often exceeds the cost of replacing the machine, so owners should consider this as they decide how to fix the problem.

Appliance Repair Service New York Repair vs. replace

Repair or replace

Major appliances are the cornerstones of modern life. Without these trusty devices, people would be reduced to washing their clothes by hand and cooking meals over an open fire.

It's no wonder that a broken appliance can amount to a pretty big problem in most households, and the question of whether to repair or replace these devices can even create a lot of anxiety.

When it comes to repairing appliances, every device eventually reaches a point of diminishing returns. If it's cheaper to fix an appliance than replace it, the smart money is usually on the fix. However, it doesn't make sense to fix a device that is likely to break down again in the near future or become technologically obsolete.

Considerations for repair or replace

Microwave ovens are a testament to man's ingenuity and creativity. For someone to have the foresight to imagine that food can be cooked without ever being placed in an oven or near a fire is astonishing. What was once a science fiction movie fantasy device, is now a common everyday household appliance. What's next? I wouldn't mind that machine from "The Jetsons" that made whatever food you mentioned. I wonder if anyone's working on that? Anyway, the microwave oven is a marvel of science, available right in our kitchens. To understand how this little cube can heat up food and make the popcorn pop, have a read of our article that explains just how it works.

So, you're here because your microwave oven isn't working as well as it used to or it isn't working at all. Many times, you can quickly and inexpensively fix the problem by yourself. You will need to have a VOM (volt-ohm meter), which you can pick up at most hardware centers. A notebook to record your process is a valuable assistant when it comes to trying to remember which screw goes where. As always, unplug the appliance before troubleshooting unless otherwise noted. Now, let's see if we can fix that problem.

Note: Before touching any internal parts, be sure to discharge the capacitor. The capacitor stores additional voltage and can hurt you even if the unit is unplugged. To discharge a capacitor safely, you will need the following: a screwdriver, a wire-wound resistor with a 2 watt - 20,000ohm rating, and a pair of jumper wires with alligator clips on the ends. Clip a wire to each end of the resistor. Clip one wire to the metal shaft of the screwdriver. Clip the other wire to one of the capacitor's terminals. Now, touch the other terminal with the tip of the screwdriver. There may be a small spark. If the capacitor has three terminals, do the same process with the middle terminal and each outside terminal.

How to Drain a Washing Machine That Won't Drain

Save a bundle on appliance repair bills. We show you how to unclog your washing machine so it drains and replace the pump if you need to.

https://nytechappliance.com/book-appointment.html
Phone: 718-787-1301
https://nytechappliance.com/

If the water won't drain out of your washing machine, either something is stuck in the drain hose or pump, or the pump is broken. Both fixes are simple if you're even just a little bit handy with tools. We’re showing the repair on a Maytag washing machine.

Start by unplugging the machine and emptying the water. Bail the water out of the tub, or you can drain the tub using gravity by placing the drain hose on the floor near the drain or in a bucket. Clamp the hose to prevent any remaining water from running out. Once the washer's empty, support the front of it on paint cans or stacked 2x4s. Shows where to find the screws that hold the front panel in place. Remove the panel and you'll see the pump.

The pump has a translucent housing, so you might even see the offending piece of clothing wrapped up in the pump. Shows what to do if the pump is clogged. If you don't see the clog in the pump or in the hose near the pump, then it could be stuck in the outlet where the hose connects to the bottom of the tub. To find out, loosen the clamp that holds the hose to the bottom of the tub and remove the hose. Have a bucket and sponge handy, though. Any water that's left in the machine will run out. When you locate the piece of clothing, pull it out with needle-nose pliers.

If nothing is clogging the hose or pump, the pump could be shot, although in most cases you'll hear noise from a bad pump, and it’ll start to leak if you don’t replace it right away. Shows how to remove the pump. Buy a new one to match. You can find a new pump online or go to your local appliance parts center. You’ll need the brand and model number for proper part identification. Model numbers are usually stamped on a small metal plate located under the tub lid or on the top, side or back of the machine. Copy down all the plate information and use it to access online parts suppliers, or take it along to the parts distributor. Install the new pump by attaching it with screws and connecting the hoses, and then reinstall the belt.

Replace a Belt on Washing Machine

An overloaded washing machine or clothing jammed in the rim of the washer drum can cause drive belts to slip or burn. Find the problem, then remove the belt and install a matching replacement belt.

A piece of clothing stuck between the inner and the outer tub on your washing machine or a load that's too large can stop the drum, which causes the drive belt to slip on the pulley and burn. So if your washing machine is running and you smell burning rubber, first shut off the washer and unplug it. Clothing tends to get stuck more often in Maytag washers, so that's what we're showing here. Check along the rim of the drum to see if there's something stuck there. After removing the item, you should replace the damaged belt. Remove the two screws located on the bottom of the front panel and swing the bottom of the panel out to unhook it from the top. Then prop the front of the washer up on paint cans so you can reach the belts. Remove the belts by starting the edge over the pulley and spinning them off. The motor is spring-loaded, so the belts will come off easily. Take the damaged belt with you to the appliance parts store to get a replacement. Reinstall the belts in the reverse order.

Clean a Washing Machine Inlet Screen - How we can do it

A washing machine that takes forever to fill may have an inlet screen clogged with mineral deposits and tiny particles of debris. The fix is simple.

Cleaning the screens is asimple job. The only tricky part is removing the screens without wrecking them (Photo 1). Don't just yank them out. Gently squeeze and twist as you pull. You'll distort the screens a little, but you can mold them back into shape with your fingers. If your screens are cemented in place by mineral deposits, you may not be able to remove them without damage. New screens are inexpensive, and are sold at appliance parts stores. Clean the screens with running water or blow out debris with an air compressor.

You may have to pick and scrape away stubborn particles with a utility knife.

How To repair Dryer Vent Cover and replace a leaky vent

The Microwave Oven Cooks Slowly or Unevenly ARmanfix

Phone: 718-787-1301
https://nytechappliance.com/

Clothes dryer vents by cleaning and lubricating the vent flaps so they completely close. If unsuccessful, replace the vent, a simple task.

If cold air comes into your laundry room through the dryer vent, you should be able to stop it fairly easily. The vent should have a flap (or flaps) at the end to stop air infiltration. Go outside and make sure there’s a flap and that it’s not stuck open. If the flap works well, check the caulking. If it’s cracking and peeling away, it’s probably allowing cold air to leak in. Cut away the old caulking, make sure the vent is flush against the siding, and apply new latex caulk. If the flap doesn’t close on its own, try cleaning it and then spray silicone on the pivot point. If the flap still won’t close, replace it. A new vent costs about $5 at home centers, and installing it will only take about 15 minutes. Start by cutting away the caulking around the vent on the siding with a utility knife, remove any screws and unclamp the duct leading to the dryer. Slide the old vent out of the wall, slip in the new one and reattach it to the duct. Caulk around the vent flange

how to de-lint a gas dryer with a front access panel Remove Dryer Lint

Thousands of dryer fires are caused by lint every year, yet they can be easily prevented with a few minutes of cleaning. Learn where lint is, how to get at it, and the best way to clean it out.

Appliance Repair Service Fixing Electronic Stove Repair

You can solve most electric range/stove  problems yourself.

This is easy job for replacment part's

Replace a bad socket or burner.

If one of your electric burners isn’t heating, it could be a bad burner, a bad connection in the burner socket or a faulty switch. To see if the problem is the burner, exchange the burner with one that you know works. If that burner won’t heat, the problem is either the burner socket or the infinite switch. (The burner prongs plug into the burner socket.) Connections in the burner socket can burn out and fail to provide power. If the prongs look burned, inspect the socket. If the socket looks charred or burned, replace it.

Replace Switch in your stove or range

The knob you turn to control the burner temperature slides over the shaft of the infinite switch. If the switch burns out, your burner won't get power. Test the infinite switch if you know the burner and burner socket are good but the burner still won't heat. We removed the back panel to access the infinite switch. Your range may be different. With the range unplugged, test the switch with a multimeter set . If the meter reading remains the same, the infinite switch is bad and should be replaced

How to Paint Plastic Appliance Handles

Yellowed handles can make a refrigerator or other appliance look

old before its time. Fix the problem easily with a spray paint designed for plastic surfaces.

The white refrigerator in your kitchen didn't come with yellow handles, but they're yellow now. Even after cleaning, they'll still look pretty grungy against the bright white porcelain cabinet. New handles are pretty pricey, so why not just paint them? It's easy and cheap. Buy a can of paint formulated to paint plastic at a home center. Then pick up a bottle of degreaser and a scrubbing pad.

Remove the handles. Then wash them with degreaser and hot water. Use a scrub pad on textured areas to remove the dirt. Pay particular attention to dirt in crevices. Then wipe the handles with a dry cloth and let them air-dry.

Mask off any emblems or chrome trim and paint the handles. Paint the vanity caps at the same time. Then reinstall the handles. You may have to repaint them in a few years. But in the meantime, they'll look a lot better.

Clean a Stinky Fridge

Turn a stinky fridge into a clean fridge by disinfecting the interior and then adding newspapers and charcoal for the final treatment. Odors will be gone within several days.

When your power goes out and the food in your fridge and freezer goes bad, you’ve got a really stinky mess on your hands. Obviously the first step is to remove the food and wipe everything down with a disinfecting cleaning spray. But our appliance expert, Costas Stavrou, gave us the rest of the story.

Turns out the most common mistake DIYers make is not cleaning all the nooks and crannies inside the freezer. The biggest culprits? The shelf supports in your freezer. Costas says to remove them and clean behind them with detergent and disinfectant to get rid of any blood or crud. If they’re permanently attached, soak them with cleaning spray. Next, forget about those expensive charcoal odor removers or coffee (which is even more expensive). Just use newspaper and charcoal briquettes. Finally (and this is the most important part), replace the old newspaper and charcoal with fresh stuff every day for about a week or until the smell is gone. Don’t think a single treatment is enough. It isn’t.

Ice Maker Repair Tips

No ice cubes to cool your beverage because your fridge icemaker is on the fritz? You can buy a replacement icemaker and install it without breaking a sweat. It's simple.

If your icemaker stops working, there's no need to call the appliance repair service. First, locate the saddle valve that's clamped to the house water supply and turn it off and on a few times to break up any mineral buildup clogging the valve. If that doesn't work, unplug the refrigerator and remove the icemaker to make sure the water inlet at the back of the refrigerator isn't plugged with ice (just heat it with a hair dryer if it is). However, if the water supply isn't blocked and the refrigerator is older, it's time to replace the icemaker. According to appliance repair pros, most icemakers break down long before the refrigerator. The good news is that most replacement kits are simple to install.

Locate the model number on the wall of the refrigerator just inside the door, then buy a new icemaker at an appliance store or online (do a search for “appliance parts”).

Unplug the refrigerator and turn the water off, then take the old icemaker out and disconnect the wiring. Plug the new icemaker in hold it in position and screw it to the refrigerator wall. Pull the refrigerator out from the wall, disconnect the water supply from the inlet valve at the bottom of the refrigerator, then replace the old inlet valve. Inlet valves should be replaced when the icemaker is replaced, and are usually included with replacement kits. If not, order it separately.

Before you push the refrigerator back, turn the water on and check for leaks.

How to Fix a Leaky Refrigerator Water Dispenser

Locate and replace the leaky tubing

If you have a water dispenser in the door of your refrigerator and notice water on the floor when you fill a glass, the vinyl tubing that runs under the refrigerator could be leaking. To find out, pull the refrigerator forward a little. Then tip it back and prop up the front feet on blocks of wood. Look underneath and ask someone to dispense a glass of water. If the tube’s leaking, you’ll see it.

The fix is simple. Photos 1–3 show the steps. Cut out the section of damaged tubing and take it with you to the home center or hardware store. Buy a new section of vinyl tubing and one or two quick-connect couplings. If you don’t have a quick-connect coupling on one end of the damaged tube as shown in Photo 1, then cut the tubing in two spots and join it with two new quick-connect couplings.

The tubing for icemakers can also get damaged and leak. So if you ever notice water on the floor under your refrigerator, check for a leaking tube and repair it using the process we show here.
